  1. my big tip.
    budget yourself!
IM can make a lot of money, but it takes money to make those upper levels.
if you dont know how to manage risk and position size. learn how. play stocks on paper, play chess, play MMOPRG that have a trade or financial component, scarcity and the ability to steal or lose everything. those will teach you the basic strategy in managing money and campaigns that can build a winner or not. its great to find a winning campaign, but if you have burned all your money on courses, poor traffic, lack of tracking, laziness. You wont have the money to ‘blow-up’ that winner when you find it. AHDH learn strategy and financial methods in safe environments and apply what you learn to making money online.

Here’s My Tip: If your trying to game the search engines using a mass amount of links, vary the anchor text. I’ve seen much better results when my anchor text was varied then when I built 1,000 links with every anchor being the same.

Don’t be that person with the sweaty hands. If you know your hands are super sweaty, try a fist bump. But definitely don’t go out of your way to shake any hands. It’s just bad for biz.

  4. Don’t keep looking for shortcuts. Google and other search engines are ultimately smarter than you are with their army of programmers. So do the work, play within the system and you won’t keep chasing shiny objects that quickly disappear.

Also outsource. Don’t do work that someone else can do better. Initially you may not be able to afford the hired help but it is cheap and well worth the money.

@Darren – That’s so true, sweaty hands gross me the hell out.

I know none of these are affiliate related, but in some fucked up way, they make us who we are so they kind of are related!!

  7. Here’s my tip – Invest early in making sure your ads are compliant. The FTC is cracking down on everyone these days, even low level affiliates. Don’t be afraid to engage a well-qualified lawyer to review your ads, and by “well-qualified” I mean Ifrah PLLC (www.ifrahlaw.com).

We have met a lot of you at previous shows, and you have become some of our most favorite clients. We get that you don’t want to spend a ton of money on laywer’s fees, so we provide you high-quality work from lawyers with Big Law experience, at reasonable prices.

Don’t wait until the FTC seizes all of your money before you get a lawyer – by then it might be too late. Make compliance part of your day-to-day operations.

That’s my tip (and it’s a good one, although sometimes it’s hard learned).

Come visit Ifrah Law at our power booth station. If you liked our “1 Weird Old Tip to Shrink Your Legal Liability” Sign at Affiliate East, I think you’ll really like our sign this time around.

LOL @Darren – cold, clammy hands are just as bad!

My tip is to not try to reinvent the wheel – go to as many sessions at ASW12 as possible to learn from the pro’s who’ve been there & done it 🙂

Looking forward to seeing you in the blogger lounge Brandon – one more sleep & I’m in Las Vegas Baby!

Don’t wait for perfection. Trying to get just the right phrase or image or domain name just delays your plan.

Create, Launch, test, Change, test, Change… What you think would be perfect might not work anyway, something you stumble upon through testing might be the golden ticket.

  10. 1. study what is working, success leaves clues (helps with SEO).
    2. worthwhile to study other markets for ideas (the frank kerns may be known, but how about the Oprah empire?.)
    3. focus on one thing, (I focus on data feeds)

So I’ll give three tips that are all interrelated.

First, set a schedule for yourself. Break down your large goals in to small actionable tasks and work on them one by one. When you have a large task looming it’s easy to become overwhelmed. This leads to you dragging your feet and delaying getting work done, which is never profitable.

Second, make sure to take a 5-10 minute break every hour. Don’t spend this time on Facebook or Wicked Fire, but actually get up, take a walk somewhere and clear your mind. You will find you are more fresh and focused throughout the day.

Third, exercise! Everyone talks about it, but not enough of us do it. We sit at our desks day in and day out so you have to find time in your schedule to get out and get active. This can be anything from doing pushups and situps, to jogging, to hitting the gym. Just make sure to take care of your body and it will take care of you.

If you work from home it’s far too easy to get off track and waste an entire day reading random crap and posting on Wicked Fire.
