Positive Changes From Facebook

Facebook is an interesting beast to tackle.  SInce the beginning they have been rather advertiser unfriendly, viewing us as their enemies rather then their friends.  Many people that read this blog are probably already Facebook advertisers so there is no need to explain all of the problems that the Facebook ad system has over again.

Although Facebook killed a TON of diet ads this week, I actually feel like they are turning over a bit of a new leaf.  Ad approvals have been much easier.  I literally got 9 out of 10 ads approved and the 1 that was dissaproved was only due to grammar.  In the past it probably would have taken me 50 tries to get 1 ad approved.  This is good news as long as what I’m noticing is not a short term fluke.

Another very positive thing that Facebook did is add an “edit & resubmit” button next to dissaproved listings.

Facebook Edit & Resubmit Button

Although it was actually possible to edit and resubmit an ad before by deleting the ad and then using the “create similar” button, I feel that this move by Facebook was certainly aimed at HELPING their advertisers rather then hurting them which is a huge departure from their normal attitude.

If you haven’t tried Facebook Ads yet, give it a whirl.  There is some great information around on getting started.

Have you noticed any other positive changes with the Facebook Advertising Platform?

  1. Definitely, I had 95% of the ads I submitted yesterday approved which I was very surprised. They are getting better.

  2. @Bryn – The only weird thing about yesterdays 1 disapproval is that they disapproved it for grammar and I didn’t see any grammar issues. I resubmitted the ad this morning and will see if they take it.

  3. I noticed the complete opposite. I’m guessing it’s this dumbass plugin thats been released. Makes things easy, but I think some affiliates are gonna get screwed over with it.

I’ve been reading up on FB and trying to figure it out. Would you say it works the same as Google Content network in that you need to bid high at 1st to get the impressions. Then if you have a high CTR you can slowly lower your bid?

Is the only way to beat it by cloaking LPS or changing them once ads are approved?

I’ve seen people post screen shots of .02 clicks and high CTRS but have no clue how they are doing. Will you ever be doing a FB casestudy or a tip post?

  7. @Kevin – As far as pricing goes your pretty much on. The higher the CTR you can get the lower the CPC you are going to get. I suggest bidding within their suggested bid range to start and then lower it if you get a decent CTR.

Cloaking is definitely a necessity if you are advertising anything that is against their advertising guidelines or that one of their reviewers could somehow misconstrue to be against their guidelines.
